about
I wrote this last year when I turned Twenty-One. It is a record of how I was feeling during that time and I meant for it to be a song to sing when I get older. This recording was done in one take, in the studio with producer Mike Ryan.
lyrics
Twenty-One By Brooks Hubbard
Verse: We use to stay up late and then sleep in, counting down the hours like we’re watching the wind, and we wished that we were older, so we could feel like men.
I don’t know where time goes when it changes my skin and my life.
Chorus: twenty-one, one more than twenty circles around the sun, and one more day this giant world has spun, and I don’t want to get older.
Verse: We use to try and say that we knew it all, exaggerate our climbs and lie about the falls not the way to live at all, but its so good to be invincible.
Time seems so slow when you wish it would go fast, but it never lasts.
Chorus: twenty-one, one more than twenty circle around the sun, I swear my spirit it was born to run , and I don’t want to get older.
Bridge: Oh what I’d give to be this age and feel this way for life, and not have fears of coming short of promises. The way I feel, I feel so young, my heart is so alive, my youth and health are both my accomplices.
But then again I long for the mind of a man that’s about to die.
Chorus: Twenty-one, one more than twenty circles around the sun, I won’t stop learning till my days are done, and I don’t want to get older.
